Mixed — a routine tier and a judgment tier. An 8 lands here because the shoot itself — posing a nervous family, working a dark reception, timing a first kiss — still needs a shooter present, but the cull, the retouch, the sky swap, the skin work and the color grade that used to be half the billable day now run on Lightroom AI and Photoshop generative fill, and the stock/catalog/product-on-white end of the trade is already served by prompts.

Hands-on in uncontrolled environments. 14 reflects that the work happens on location in conditions nobody controls: rain-out weddings, cramped MLS listings shot with a tripod and flash on a stair landing, sideline sports, crawling on the floor for a newborn, hauling 30 pounds of bodies, lenses and strobes to somebody else's venue and rigging light in it.

No licence, no signature requirement. A 1 is right because no state licenses photographers — anyone with a camera can take paid clients tomorrow, and CPP or PPA credentials are marketing, not a legal barrier; your only exposures are contract and model release, which don't restrict who competes with you.

The human relationship is the product. 13 because wedding and portrait clients hire on referral, gallery style and a meeting where they decide whether they want you in the room during the vows or with a naked infant, and that booked-a-year-out relationship can't be transferred to a cheaper shooter — but the corporate headshot, real estate and event-coverage side of the same business is routinely awarded on price and turnaround.

Meaningful discretion. 8 sits mid-range because you make live, unrepeatable calls — expose for the veil or the tux, move the ceremony indoors, which of 3,000 frames tells the story — but those choices are aesthetic and recoverable, not decisions that put someone's health, money or legal standing at risk.
