The screen-side half of this job — playout scheduling, ingest, log verification, loudness and signal monitoring, switching pre-recorded segments — has been getting automated for two decades by playout systems and centralcasting hubs that run dozens of stations from one room, and AI monitoring closes the remaining gap. What persists is hands-on: climbing to transmitter and STL sites, swapping failed amplifiers and cards, rigging cameras, audio, and IP encoders for live remotes, and fixing a live signal chain in the 90 seconds you have. Employment is already shrinking through consolidation rather than through robots, and the surviving jobs are the RF/IT engineering tier, not the master-control chair.

10-year outlook: Headcount keeps falling as centralcasting consolidates master control, but the field engineers who maintain transmitters and build IP plants will be scarce enough to command better pay than today's median.
